In the 19th century, whaling voyages from Nantucket often lasted for three to four years. Captain and crew took to scrimshaw and basket weaving to pass the time on board.
By the beginning of the twentieth century these baskets were being avidly collected by the moneyed yachting set. The passion for Nantucket continues into the present century — and we share it. So much so, that we keep inventing new contemporary baskets with classic Nantucket styling.
Our Nantucket baskets are made of traditional materials: hardwood, Indonesian rattan cane and bone turnings. Our signature hardwood is New England white ash.
